How to do full color on-disc CD or DVD printing?

A lot of people tend to use disc labeler when they think about making a colorful label for their home-made DVD discs. Some just print color graphics on a special label paper with glue on the backside of the disc label and then apply the label onto the disc.

I would highly discourage this approach if you really want to preserve the DVD or CD discs for many years to come. One bad thing that can often happen to a stick-on DVD label is that over time the label will come off. The worst can happen when the label sticks within the DVD machine while you insert the disc and try to play.

If you are serious in preserving your treasure DVD discs, you should think about investing a special DVD/CD printer. Over the past couple of years, there have been quite some new DVD or CD disc printers for sale in the markets. Some good ones worth mentioning are Primera Bravo CD/DVD Auto Printers, Systor Discmaster CD/DVD auto printers. These models are no cheap at around and above 1000 dollars, but they can serve your DVD/CD printing purposes for many years in the future. If you are big on achiving family photos and videos not only for your family but also for your extended families, it will pay off soon.

What if you are still serious about producing quality DVD disk graphics but on a budget? Well the good news is you don't have to spend a thousand bucks yet still have high quality DVD disk printing done. There are several ways you can achieve this:

1. You can find a decent low-price color printer that can also handle dvd disc printing. It usually comes with a special disc tray and a label designing software. When printing artwork on a disc, you simply design the arwork on your computer, set up the tray and insert the dvd or cd disc. Please notice that the dvd/cd discs need to be of printable type suitable for inkjet printer. These discs are easily avaible online with a unit price slightly higher than common non-printable ones.

2. If buying a new color printer is not an option, you can buy a special type of DVD/CD burner called lightscribe writers. Lishtscribing is a technology that use the same disc-burning laser to burning a graphic/artwork on the graphic side of the disc. The DVD/CD discs need to be of lightscribe type too. Lightscribe discs come with various colors but the final graphics are usually mono-color.

3. What if you don't want to invest in any dvd printing equipment or buy any special DVD/CD discs? Welcome to the Internet age! Do a simple search on Google you will find plenty of businesses trying to do a professional online CD or DVD disc printing for you at a very affordable price! Try to cross check the businesses before you settle down with one. Also try to do a trial run by placing a small order to find out whether their quality is up to your expectation.

Preserving the dvd or cd discs is very important to your overall success of preserving your memories. Whether you decide to buy a professional dvd or cd disc printer or get by in a cheaper way, you do not want to sacrifice the disc printing quality!
